In the press
Hello, we are Graspinghand, a group of young designers, and this is Sweetbox, a case for the Raspberry Pi computer.
Its strong plastic material protects it from shocks and scratches.
It feels smooth to touch, and the components and status lights are visible through the translucent material.
You don't have to open the case to access the GPIO pins, just remove the rubber cap and plug in.
In the lower part of the case, there is extra-space to place a mini-sd adaptor like the pIO and make the object even more compact.
The 2 parts are clipped together smoothly, without any screws, for easy and quick opening.
Temperature
We are including a
set of 3 heatsinks together with the case. As far as we know, we are
the only ones to integrate tailor-made copper heatsinks.
Copper is one of the the best thermal conductors, so the set allows you to cool your raspberry even when it's overclocked. We played frenetically for 3 hours on Quake III with a Raspberry Pi overclocked at 950 MHz with its Sweetbox and its heatsinks and without. You will find results below.
Each heatsink is ready to mount with its thermal paste, so just pull off the protective film and put them in place .
Price
So how much for this rugged and
unique, smallest Raspberry Pi case, with its 3 integrated copper
heatsinks? Only 11£ (+ 3£ for shipping worldwide).
We chose a funding duration of 60 days, because we think that we need time to diffuse it but as soon as we will reach he amount goal we will launch the production, so the faster we reach it the sooner Sweetboxes will be produced and sent.
The funding will be spent to produce the injection molds, heatsinks and rubber cap's cutting tools, and to cover the costs for materials and injection of the cases.
We have placed a great deal of importance to the choice of materials, each detail of the case has to be perfect, we want to offer you a flawless product.
You will be constantly updated of all the advancements of the project as they happen.
Now it's your turn to make it real, thanks!
Graspinghand
At this point, we have successfully completed all stages of prototype development and introduced a standard of quality that we are proud to present. The greatest challenge for us now is to ensure the same level of perfection for mass manufacturing. Although, such a leap in scale will surely hold some surprises and difficulties for us to overcome, we have already started to address several issues concerning the next step.
Knowing that our project demands high precision we have inquired and obtained several positive answers from injection molding companies regarding the margins of fault that we can tolerate.
Although the design and the 3d file of the Sweetbox are fully functional we are expecting minor modifications to be required in order to facilitate the demolding of each piece. However these details will be worked out along with the company’s engineers and should not hold us back.
Once the mold is obtained, we wish to experiment with different opacities, finishes and coatings of the Sweetbox and also try to please our backers with customized and playful products.
With all that and much more in mind we are hoping to start shipping the first Sweetboxes end of June 2013. We will be posting regularly on this page to keep in you informed on how we proceed.
