(Open): Shares on Wall Street opened flat after a mixed bag of results late on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones was down by 0.02% at 14,715 points.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes were also little changed.

There was little in the way of rebound from stocks despite the fact that a sharp downturn on Tuesday seemed to be largely prompted by a tweet on a newswire that was later found to be false.

The tweet claimed there had been two explosions at the White House and that President Barack Obama had been injured.
