The South Korean military produces an elaborate Les Miserables parody.

The South Korean air force produced a Les Miserables video parody on YouTube for "motivational purposes." This version of the19th century French novel-turned-musical has an alternate storyline. The plot lacks any mention of revolution, and instead consists of a Korean airman who wishes to have his girlfriend visit his base, despite an overbearing boss.

In just two days, the video has gained more than 600,000 views on YouTube, as well as a Twitter nod from actor Russell Crowe, who starred in the 2012 Hollywood remake. Crowe retweeted:

Officially, South Korea is still at war with rival North Korea and requires two years of mandatory military service for men. Another reason for the video's creation, Cheon added, was to "help shatter the image of the military as a dull place and encourage more youth to take the service with delight."South Korea's military doesn't look worried about Kim Un's nukes. Then again, a Les Mis parody is good for the nerves. http://on.wsj.com/UEHZrCThomas MuchaOther than the female lead, everyone in the video is currently serving compulsory military duty. Looking through the South Korea Air Force YouTube channel, there are numerous videos posted by service members. Does the Air Force have too much time on its hands?
